§ SIGNAL / AUDIENCE INTELLIGENCE · UPLIFT / FILED 2026

Target who changes their mind — not who was coming anyway.

Response models find people likely to convert. That is the wrong question: many of them convert without you. Signal ranks audiences by uplift — the change your spend causes — and treats “do not touch” as a targeting decision of equal rank to “reach.”

§01 · The four quadrants

Every audience contains four kinds of customers.

Persuadables

Convert if reached, don't if not. The only quadrant where ad spend creates revenue — bids scale up here.

Sure things

Convert either way. Every impression and every coupon sent here is margin given away. Maintain presence, stop paying premiums.

Lost causes

Don't convert either way. Budget spent here is simply burned — suppressed.

Sleeping dogs

Convert only if left alone — outreach actively pushes them away. The most expensive audience to reach, in both directions. Excluded.

The quadrants are estimated per segment with uplift models over registered experiments — the same holdout machinery as the credit ledger, pointed forward.

Field note — composite scenario · illustrative numbers

Retargeting is our best channel. The dashboard says 8x. So why does growth feel stuck?

The test
Signal quietly kept the ads away from a small, identical slice of shoppers and watched what they did anyway.
The ledger
Most of that slice bought regardless — sure things, not persuadables. The real return was closer to 1.4x.
The change
Retargeting cut by a third; the budget moved to net-new customers. Revenue held.

You were paying a doorman to open a door people were already walking through.

§02 · The cohort gate

A cohort activates when it passes, not when it excites.

Activation guardrails — operating defaults, every one enforced before a dollar moves

Cohorts that pass export to Google Customer Match, Meta Custom Audiences, or lifecycle email — with predicted incremental return computed before activation, and the measured version written back after — operating design, in development.

§03 · Suppression

The cheapest optimization is the send you don't make.

Stop couponing certainty

Discounts routed away from sure-buyers — the composite in the field notes where roughly a fifth of sends were pure margin giveaway is this quadrant, priced.

Go quiet on sleeping dogs

Negative-uplift segments are excluded from campaigns entirely. Fewer unsubscribes, fewer hides, better delivery reputation on everything that still sends.

Fatigue-aware reach

Suppression coordinates with Creative Intelligence: an audience marked fatigued for an asset stops seeing it before annoyance becomes attrition.

§04 · Ahead of the funnel

Anticipatory intent Preview · in development

Signal is being extended to read emerging intent from consented behavioral signals and classify where a customer sits on the path from awareness to purchase-imminent — so audiences can be built from where demand is going, not only where it has been. Predictions will ship with calibrated probabilities and the explanation path that produced them.

One rule keeps it honest when it ships: acting on a predicted audience always runs against a registered holdout, so anticipation is never mistaken for causation. The prediction never grades itself.

Stated plainly: this capability is in development, not deployed. Consent decides ingestion; sensitive categories are refused at the schema level; Signal uses no microphone or audio signals of any kind — not now, not on the roadmap.

§05 · See it run

Mechanism on this page. Proof in the factory.

The Signal Factory desk runs the full seven-stage SRPVDAL loop on live runtime — including a deliberate guardrail block you'll watch get caught in red. No signup, no sales call.
